I understand the energy demands of sports and an active lifestyle and use this knowledge to set the groundwork for helping you make the best food choices for YOU. Along the way you will also gain this understanding of just how much your food choices affect your success in achieving your athletic goals. With the education I provide you will be able to continue to make the best food choices today and in the future. This is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach…while there are certain universal fundamentals for every human, each person is unique with regard to sport, height, weight, sex, and other physiological differences, not to mention likes and dislikes when it comes to food! So, it will be our goal to develop a customized guide taking all these variables into account. This is NOT a diet, but a way to live that will show you how you can greatly expand on what you can eat so that you can feel satisfied and fulfilled on the way to achieving your goals.

Not only do I have the knowledge and education to share with you, but I have a wealth of athletic experience myself. I’ve been there…I’ve done it!...I UNDERSTAND. I grew up swimming and playing tennis before turning to rowing in college and competing for the top collegiate women’s crew of the time. I loved training and competing in rowing so much that I continued to row after earning my B.A. and had the good fortune to enjoy the international scene as well! My retirement from rowing in 1996 only meant that I would dive into the world of triathlon with a return to my swimming roots. Using my training knowledge and usual methodical approach to just about everything, I worked my way up from short sprint tri’s to Olympic distance to eventually competing in the IM Utah and – my favorite! -- IM USA Lake Placid. And today I continue to stay physically active swimming Master’s and cycling with an eye on future competition.

I also cannot stress enough that whatever aids your most immediate athletic goals will also benefit you in the long-run! And if you are a parent, ask yourself why you first got your child involved in swimming/soccer/tennis/etc…? You probably wanted your child to stay active and healthy – particularly as more and more time was spent sitting in school and doing homework. In addition, you probably hoped that your child would also learn valuable lessons from sports regarding discipline and dedication in the course of pursuing a goal. As a mother of two children who grew up swimming and now swim in college at D-1 and top NCAA D-3 teams, I share your hopes and concerns. Establishing good nutritional habits is just as integral to helping your child not only stay active and healthy in the immediate future but learn and develop the tools for your child to become a happy and healthy adult down the road!

My work experience with the athletic population began with a leading orthopedic surgeon, helping him establish a sports-oriented practice with a full spectrum of treatment from physical therapy to massage therapy to surgical interventions and transitioning patients back into athletic training. Since then I have never ceased to keep myself abreast of the latest developments in the field of exercise physiology and all that it entails in order to better myself, my family, and all those around me. It is truly my belief that the answers lie in evidence-based research and the pursuit of scientific knowledge. Come join me on this journey!
